Warehouse CPR walk-time planning in Singapore

A warehouse is more than its office lobby

Singapore warehouses and logistics facilities can include loading yards, high-bay storage, packing floors, mezzanines, cold rooms, workshops, gatehouses, and multi-level offices. An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) near reception or the security post can be important, but it does not by itself demonstrate workable coverage for every operating zone.

Workplace Safety and Health (WSH), Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Facilities, and operations teams can treat CPR start and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) retrieval as separate responsibilities.

Separate CPR start from device retrieval

1. Start CPR: the trained responder at the incident point begins CPR and should not leave solely to find equipment.
2. Call 995: a separate person gives the exact building, level, zone, loading bay, or gate and assigns someone to meet the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
3. Fetch the Automated External Defibrillator (AED): another person retrieves the nearest known device and returns by the fastest accessible route.

Assign roles by shift or job function rather than by individual name so the plan remains usable across changing rosters.

Measure the complete walk-time

Walk from each operating zone to the nearest Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and back. Time the complete return route rather than a one-way trip or a floor-plan estimate.

Include security barriers, locked doors, cargo lifts, stairs, racking detours, pedestrian routes, yard crossings, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, and handover time at the cabinet. Repeat the walk during representative shifts and after layout or access changes.

Map warehouse zones explicitly

• inbound and outbound loading bays;
• high-bay aisles and mezzanine storage;
• packing, sorting, and fulfilment floors;
• cold rooms, workshops, and plant areas;
• yards, gatehouses, and remote security posts; and
• offices, canteens, and contractor work areas.

The purpose is to identify operational gaps, not to promise a clinical result. A facility may choose different placement or staffing controls after reviewing its footprint, risk assessment, training, and applicable requirements.
