AEDs and CPRAIDR® do different jobs
You need both: high-quality CPR and early defibrillation. Here is how they fit together — without false claims.
Two jobs in the chain of survival
Cardiac arrest response is a system, not a single gadget. Public resuscitation messaging emphasises starting CPR quickly and getting a defibrillator to the patient as soon as possible.
- Automated external defibrillator (AED): analyses rhythm; may deliver a shock when indicated.
- CPRAIDR®: a CPR assistant that gives feedback on depth, rate, release, and ventilation cues — for training and for guiding compressions in an emergency.
Why “AED only” is not enough
An automated external defibrillator (AED) on the wall is essential — but defibrillation often arrives after precious minutes of compressions should already have started. High-quality CPR buys time until defibrillation and advanced care.
Immediate CPR can double or triple the chance of survival after cardiac arrest — that is public American Heart Association (AHA) / European Resuscitation Council (ERC) context, not a CPRAIDR® efficacy claim.
Manufacturer position
VitalSigns states CPRAIDR® is a standalone device that can be used in parallel with defibrillators, does not affect defibrillator function, and need not be removed.

Practical facility setup
Pair AED coverage with CPR readiness: wall-visible CPRAIDR® placement, short recurrent practice between formal courses, and clear roles (who calls 995, who starts CPR, who fetches the AED).
